REMEMBRANCE & MINCE PIES

This Saturday, 11th November 2017, where people across the globe stand in silence for two minutes at 11am. World War I ended on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th Month and this day now remembers all those who fought in the war as well as the millions who have been affected by every conflict since. We feel it is very important that these memories are never forgotten and are shared for generations to come. The bright red poppy, flashing so brightly amid the grey and black backdrop of suits and coats, is a gleaming symbol that reminds us of the power to remember and of all those who are so important we never forget.

The temperatures have really turned recently and we all know what that means – Christmas is on its way! This is the time of year when we definitely eat more than we should – mainly to keep our internal body temperatures up so we can fight off the cold (well that’s what I tell myself anyway!).

One of the great treats this time of year is the mince pie. It can be a bit of a marmite situation as some say they love and some say they can’t stand them. But where do you get the best ones from? Here at Owen Brothers Catering. Personally homemade is the best and that’s what we give you the best.
Our pastries are lovely and buttery, and have the perfect amount of filling to pastry ratio with the wow factor you are looking for. Our pastry is a little soft but the filling is a lot tastier (perhaps because it’s got a higher proportion of port and brandy!)

Then we give you an option of what to put on your mince pie; pouring cream, whipped cream, clotted cream, custard, brandy butter or ice cream. Do you have it hot or cold? In the office we are having it cold and without any accompaniments so that we get full raw flavour of the mince pie on its own.
